The Municipality of Selenice

Selenice

Selenica Municipality is among the new municipalities and lies in the southwestern part of Albania, in Vlora Region and covers an area of 561.24 km2. This municipality consists of six administrative units: Selenica, Armen, Vlahina, Kotë, Sevaster and Brataj. Unfortunately, these administrative units do not have a good connection with the city of Selenica and some of them do not have direct access to it, making their interaction very difficult. The Municipality of Selenica has under its administration 1 city and 47 villages. According to the civil registry for 2016, it has a population of 35,594 inhabitants. The main economic activity of the municipality is agriculture and livestock farming. It also has some small family businesses, mainly in the field of services. However, in this municipality is the main Bitum mining industry of Albania, which serves as the main source of employment for the inhabitants of the town of Selenica and the surrounding villages.
