The Municipality of Peqin

Peqin

The new Municipality of Peqin lies along the old Egnatia road, while the Klaudiana castle in the center of the city is a testimony of the ancient times of this settlement. The new municipality consists of 6 administrative units, which are: Peqin, Pajovë, Karinë, Përparim, Gjocaj and Shezë. According to the 2011 Census, Peqini has a population of 26,136 inhabitants. While according to the Civil Registry, the municipality counts 38,900 inhabitants. The new municipality covers an area of 197.79 km2 with a density of 196.67 inhabitants/km2. The new municipality has under its administration a city and 50 villages. The city and the 50 villages of this municipality lie in a flat and hilly area. The economic potentials of the municipality are based on three relevant sectors: agriculture, service and industry.
