The Municipality of Kelcyre

Kelcyre

The municipality of Këlcyra lies in the southeastern part of the country on an area of 304.65 km2. This municipality consists of 4 administrative units: Këlcyra, Ballaban, Sukë and Dishnicë, which are currently part of Përmet district and Gjirokastra district. The new municipality has under its administration one city (Kelcyra) and 48 villages. According to the civil registry for 2016, the Municipality of Kelcyra counts a population of 12,430 inhabitants. The economy is a somewhat mixed focused on agriculture and livestock along with industrial (mostly agro-food industry) and few services. However, the natural resources and values are not used in their full potential due to the mountain terrain and the infrastructure issues.
