The Municipality of Kamez

Kamez

Kamza Municipality is bordered by Tirana to the north, east and south, Kruja Municipality to the north-west and Vora Municipality to the west. Kamza consists of two administrative units, namely: Kamza and Paskuqan. Kamza is the seat of the new municipality which encompasses 14 villages. Of those, the following villages are under the administrative unit of Kamza: Bathore, Laknas, Valias, Frutikulturë, Bulçesh, Zall-Mner; whereas the following villages are under the administrative unit of Paskuqan: Paskuqan, Babrru Qëndër, Kodër e Kuqe, Shpat, Fushë e Kërçikëve, Kodër Babrru, Paskuqan Fushë, Paskuqan Kodër. Both administrative units are part of Tirana district and region. The new municipality of Kamza extended over a small surface area, though with the highest density in Albania, rendering it practically the most urban municipality of Albania, regardless of the fact that it includes normally 14 settlements which are officially rural. The new municipality was built over the last 20 years and its population increase rate has been incredible. Kamza as an inhabited area counted fewer than 5 thousand inhabitants settled mostly around the agricultural enterprise “YlliiKuq”, agricultural technology institutes, as well as around the coal mine “Valiasi”, whereas the population increased rapidly due to internal migration during the last 25 years. Kamza was declared a town in 1996, whereas Paskuqani, though officially classified as a rural area became an urban area with high buildings and population density.
