The Municipality of Delvina

Delvina

The new Municipality of Delvinë consists in two administrative units, Delvinë and Vergo, and has under its administration one city and 17 villages. Delvina Municipality is located in southern Albania in an area of 183 km2 and is bordered to the north with Gjirokastër, to the south with Sarandë and Finiq, to the west with Himarë and to the east with Delvinë. The Municipality of Delvinë has a rich history of the city, as it had a strategic role in the development of the Albanian state. However, the last years the municipality is struggling due to the high migration, especially of youth and educated population. The municipality according to the civil registry for 2016 has 21,045 habitants. The economy of is focused mostly on agriculture and livestock. However, within the municipal territory there is also a gas storage site, which is used by a private concession company.
