Bulqiza Municipality is bordered by Dibra Municipality to the north, Klos Municipality to the west, Tirana Municipality to the south-west, Librazhd Municipality to the south and the Republic of Macedonia to the east. Bulqiza town is the seat of this municipality. Bulqiza Municipality encompasses 8 administrative units, namely: Bulqiza, Martanesh, Fushë-Bulqiza, Zerqan, Shupenzë, Gjoricë, Ostren and Trebisht. The new municipality administers two towns (Bulqiza and Krasta) and 63 villages. Bulqiza town was built to exploit mining and large natural reserves, and for this matter it should revive this source for the interest of the municipality and its inhabitants. The hilly-mountainous relief renders agriculture and farming as the main income-generating activities, though chromium extraction and enrichment are also important. Bulqiza region is quite well-known for its chromium mines. Another important source of economic development of this region is mountain tourism as well as the establishment of medical plants collection centres, which are abundant in the area. Amongst the great projects undertaken over the years, we may mention the pavement of the National Road segment “Qafa e Buallit- Shupenzë”, part of “Rruga e Arbërit”, the opening of a 460-meter long tunnel on the same segment, at Qafa e Buallit, and Qafa e Buallit-Ura e Vashës road. These significant public works have facilitated citizens’ move and transport. Likewise, important investments may include the regulation-pavement of rural roads that connect the commune centres of Zerqan, Fushë-Bulqizë and Gjoricë along the national road. In Bulqiza town, which was built for the exploitation of chromium mines and large chromium reserves, there is a considerable number of businesses, whereas the number of employees working in the mines and the economic benefits from employment have varied over the last decade .
