Shkodra Municipality is bordered by Malësia e Madhe Municipality to the north, Montenegro to the west, Tropoja Municipality to the east, Vau i Dejës Municipality to the south and partially by Lezha Municipality. Shkodra city is the seat of this municipality. The new municipality of Shkodra encompasses 11 administrative units, namely: Shkodra, Ana e Malit, Bërdica, Dajç, Guri i Zi, Postriba, Pult, Rrethinat, Shala, Shosh and Velipoja. Shkodra Municipality administers a town and 93 villages. Based on the 2011 Census, this municipality counts 135,612 inhabitants, whereas based on data from the Civil Registration Office, this municipality counts 200.889 inhabitants. The geographical location of Shkodra Municipality and climate conditions mark some advantages for agriculture and tourism development. The region, over a surface area of 100 km, has optimal natural conditions for coastal and lake tourism (Velipoja and lake Shkodra); mountain tourism (Thethi); cultural tourism (Shkodra town and Rozafa castle), as well as agro-tourism. Natural recourses, vicinity with Montenegro and traditional links with cross-border community provide important opportunities for social and economic development of Shkodra. Over the recent years, Shkodra Municipality has achieved considerable development in infrastructure, and in major investments, such as Buna bridge, the border with Muriqan, Shkodra- Hani iHotit highway, finalisation of the urban ring road construction or construction of pedestrian areas.
