Puka Municipality is bordered by Vuai Dejës Municipality to the west, Fushë Arrëz Municipality to the east and Mirdita and Lezha Municipalities to the south. Puka town is the seat of this municipality. This municipality consists of 5 administrative units, namely: Puka, Gjegjani, Rrapë, Qelëz and Qerret. The new municipality administers one town and 41 villages. Puka Municipality is rich in minerals and large forest areas, yet lack of investments has obliged a good many of the inhabitants to emigrate . Puka Municipality is one of the richest zones in minerals in the country, which has also a considerable forest area. However, massive wood cutting has brought about a series of issues in the area. The closing of mines or granting to companies via concessionary contracts has increased the number of unemployed persons in Puka, making poverty a serious issue for the inhabitants of the area. Due to these, a good many of the population has migrated to Central Albania or abroad. An important source of living for this municipality isrevenues from emigration. There have no great investments made in the area, whereas the road axis Durrës-Kukës has annexed and isolated Puka Municipality. Puka’s mountainous terrain is quite fitting for mountain tourism development; apart from natural riches and resources with great economic values which are found within the geographical boundary of Puka, mainly natural forests, medical plants and underground mineral richness. During the last years, a small number of tourists have revisited Puka thanks to the opening of a ski-run and construction of a series of hostels. Nevertheless, they remain small in number. Winter season remains a problem for Puka Municipality, where road blockage due to snow isolates a large part of the area and hardens the lives of the inhabitants .
