The Municipality of Kavaje

Kavaje

The municipality of Kavaja is situated in the central part of Albania covering an area of 198.81 km2, with a soft hillside and fertile relief around the city of Kavaja to the Adriatic Sea, including the beaches with sand and shingle seashores. The municipality is bordered to the north by Durres Municipality, to the east by Tirana Municipality, to the south by Rrogozhina Municipality and Adriatic Sea to the west. After the administrative reform, the municipality of Kavaja consists of five administrative units: Kavaja, Synej, Luz i Vogël, Golem and Helmës. It is part of Tirana District and includes one city and 32 villages. According to the civil registry in 2016, the municipality has a population of 81,621 inhabitants. Kavaja has strategic geographic position as it is very close to the largest economic poles of the country (Durres and Tirana), meaning a great potential to interact and further develop the industry. The presence of Adriatic Sea and the investments in coastal areas have made tourism the main service sector. On the other side the Mediterranean climate and the geological characteristics provide opportunities for the development of agriculture and livestock.
