Kukes
Kukës Municipality is bordered by Kruma Municipality to the north, Mirdita and Fushë Arrëz Municipalities to the west, Dibra Municipality to the south and the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Macedonia to the east. Kukës city is the seat of this municipality. Based on the Census 2011, the population is 47,985 inhabitants. Based on the Civil Registration Office, this municipality counts 59,393 inhabitants. The new municipality extends over a surface area of 933.86 km2and its population density based on the Civil Registration Office is 63.59 inhabitants/km2, whereas based on the Census 2011 is 51.38 inhabitants/km2. This municipality consists of 15 administrative units, namely: Kukës, Malzi, Bicaj, Ujmisht, Tërthore, Shtiqën, Zapod, Shishtavec, Topojan, Bushtricë, Grykë-Çajë, Kalis, Surroj, Arrën and Kolsh. The newly established municipality administers a town and 87 villages. The relief of Kukës area is mainly mountainous where Mount Gjallica and Mount Koritni are located, part of Korab mountain range. Drini Valley makes the terrain geographically rougher, with steep and narrow gorges where a series of big dams of the hydro power plants have been built. Lake Fierza, which is the largest artificial lake in the country, is partly located in this region. Kukës Municipality has a rich history and culture, local traditions, variety of agricultural products, cuisine which are a highly potential for development of tourism in the region (eco-tourism, mountain tourism, etc.). There is a wide variety of cultural-artistic activities organised in this area, mainly at the centre of Kukës city, such as manifestations, festivals, literary works competition, fairs, exhibitions, feasts and celebrations.
